Mequinol is an organic compound derived from phenol, where a methoxy group (-OCH₃) is attached to the benzene ring. It is often used in the treatment of hyperpigmentation (such as in the case of age spots or sun spots) and is considered a skin-lightening agent. It has antioxidant properties and can also be used as a reducing agent in certain chemical applications.

APPLICATION:
- Cosmetic and Dermatological Uses: Mequinol is often used in skin lightening products, particularly for age spots, freckles, and hyperpigmentation. It works by inhibiting melanin production in the skin, helping to lighten dark spots or areas of uneven pigmentation.
- Pharmaceutical Uses: It is used in some pharmaceutical formulations as a topical treatment for hyperpigmentation and also as a hair dye intermediate.
- Chemical Applications: In some cases, Mequinol is used in the chemical industry as a reducing agent.
APPEARANCE: white to off-white crystalline or fine powder
SOLUBILITY: Sparingly soluble in water; readily soluble in ethanol, methanol, propylene glycol, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), and other organic solvents.
PH: 4.5–6.5.
