Amodimethicone is an amino-functional silicone polymer (a modified form of dimethicone) widely used in hair care and some skin care products. It carries positive (cationic) charges, which allows it to selectively bind to negatively charged, damaged areas of hair. It forms a thin protective film on hair, improving smoothness, shine, and protection from heat or environmental damage.
