Description
Hydrogenated Castor Oil Wax (also known as castor wax) is a hard, brittle, vegetable-derived wax produced by the controlled hydrogenation of pure liquid castor oil extracted from castor beans. This process saturates the oil, increasing its chemical stability, resistance to oxidation, and raising its melting point so that it remains a solid at room temperature.
BENEFITS:
- Texture & Viscosity Modifier: Acts as an effective thickener and hardening agent, giving structure and stability to sticks and balms.
- Moisture Retention: Functions as an emollient and occlusive barrier that seals in hydration and reduces trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL).
- Thermal Stability: Boasts a high melting point (80°C–90°C), preventing cosmetic products from melting or bleeding in warm climates.
- Water Resistance: Naturally repels moisture, making it excellent for long-wear makeup and protective skin barriers.
- Safety: It is completely non-toxic, non-irritating, and biodegradable
APPLICATION:
- Cosmetics & Personal Care: Used in lipsticks, lip balms, deodorants, antiperspirant sticks, mascara, and heavy body creams.Â
- Pharmaceuticals: Acts as a consistency factor in topical ointments, a binding lubricant for tablets/capsules, and a plasticizer in solid drug dispersions.Â
- Industrial Manufacturing: Utilized in high-temperature industrial greases, lubricants, powder coatings, hot-melt adhesives, sealants, and polishes for furniture or cars
- INCI Name: Hydrogenated Castor Oil.Â
- CAS Number: 8001-78-3 (also referenced as 8001-79-4 for standard castor oil fractions).Â
- Appearance:Â white flakes
- Solubility: Completely insoluble in water. It is oil-soluble and dissolves well in hot organic solvents, ethanol, acetone, and chloroform when heated above its melting point (approx. 85°C).Â
- pH Range: Stable across a wide pH range of 3.0 to 9.0. When dispersed in aqueous formulations, it maintains a neutral to slightly acidic pH.
- Usage Rate: Typically used between 0.1% and 10.0% depending on the specific application
- Country of Origin: India
